My Students

Sometimes, I think our little music program is the best-kept secret in our town! I've been very fortunate to be able to build a fantastic band and percussion program at this school. Students are able to choose to play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument, and I get to teach them for all three years of their middle school experience.

Although I've been teaching for a long time, I will never get tired of seeing the look on a student's face when they hear themselves playing music on an instrument.

I also love helping students move from nervous beginners to excited intermediate players to confident veterans, playing quality music in groups and as soloists along the way.

My Project

This is a "grab-bag" of some of the many necessities that our music program requires. We have over 60 new 6th-grade beginner musicians in our Concert Band & Percussion classes, so we need quality instruments and supplies to give them the same opportunity that our intermediate and advanced students have. Drum pads​ stands, and new sticks will galvanize the percussion class in a way that only new equipment can. The clarinet and alto sax reeds are an expensive necessity because young players go through a LOT of reeds before they learn how to take care of them. Without valve oil, our trumpets, baritones, and tubas grind to an inexorable halt. And the very loud trumpets and trombones need mutes so they can practice in their NYC apartments without inciting the wrath of their neighbors.
