Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If I could describe my students in one word, I would say they are courageous. Many students that you can find are nice or hardworking, but there are times when life gets hard and many would just give up on life or at school or in learning an instrument, but my students don't.
My students go up against so much, but they are a community of fighters, fearless, with the heart to press on and up and out, whether in music, in school or in life in general.
I have students who care for siblings and work jobs to support their families alongside their parents while going to school. I have students struggling with severe chronic physical and emotional pains, with severe hardships they should not have to bear, but they don't complain, and they don't give up. They are resilient. They dream of bigger things and they contribute to the music we make every day.
With ever dwindling resources for music in schools, we need your help to purchase new strings, rosin, shoulder rests, and other supplies, so that more students like them can have the chance to experience playing in a well equipped string orchestra.
My Project
These much needed materials will help our students by improving the tone they can produce on the instruments.
Often, the difference between a quality sounding orchestra and a poor sounding one is the age of the strings on the instruments and the amount of rosin on the bows.
At the very least, old strings don't hold a consistent tune or resonate well; at the worst, the metal winding can fray, putting students at risk of being cut by the tiny metal shards. The rosin is sticky processed tree sap dust applied to the bow hair to create the friction necessary to produce a quality tone.
