The Schurz High School String Orchestra Program hails from the historic Irving Park neighborhood on Chicago's North side. We have a large percentage of Latino students and families, especially from Mexico. The music program is very active at our school, with more than 100 years of continuous music making, and the orchestra program has historically been high-achieving. We offer beginning and advanced orchestra class, and participate in local and regional competitions. Though many of our students come from economically challenged backgrounds, they understand the importance of thorough musical training, opportunities for artistic growth, and cultural experience to expanding their minds and horizons. They are the next generation and we have a narrow window to help steer them in a positive direction. Through your provision of various supplies, accessories, instruments, and experiences, we will achieve this and more.
