This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my classroom I have an extensive library of novels, comics, mangas and textbooks in numerous genres. Every Friday I give my students a designated free read time where they read independently any book that they have chosen from our library.
I promote not only literacy in my 9th and 10th grade ELA classes but a love of reading.
Some of my students struggle with reading a traditional novel and prefer a manga or comics. The visuals of a manga help my students comprehension of a text. Constant exposure to new stories and literature increases my students' reading abilities while at the same time promoting joy in my classroom. Please help me add a new series that some of my students have been asking for.
