My Students

My students are special for so many reasons. One of the things that makes each student so special is his or her background. Some students come from low income families, while others are more affluent. Some students arrive at school already exposed to academics, while others may get their first academic experience on their first day of school. Many students come from homes where English isn't the first language. All of these differences come together to create a classroom community that is special!

Every classroom is like a fingerprint; unique!

Each year's new students and their diverse backgrounds make every school year an original. No two classroom communities are alike. I want to make sure that no matter their background, every student receives the best learning environment for their learning style.

My Project

No two students are identical. Many students can sit in a traditional seat while working and learning. However, there are some students who try very hard, but a traditional seat doesn't create the best learning environment for them. These students are often out of their seats, away from their desks, and distracted from the learning process. These students require alternative seating which allows for movement while they are learning at their desks.

Alternative seating will allow a student to work to their best potential, in a non-traditional way.

For this project, I am requesting several different types of chairs. A "wobble cushion" is a inflatable rubber cushion which can be placed in a chair or on the floor. The wobble cushion is designed to assist in balance, exercise and rehabilitation - and it allows some students to move about their chair, without making them want to leave their chair. A "glow stool" is exactly that - a stool which allows a student to spin and twist and have motion at their seat, something a regular school chair simply doesn't allow. The "stay and play balance ball" is another exercise ball, which is designed to allow a student to move at their seat, to adjust and shift their balance and weight, which again is simply not possible in a regular school chair.

All of these "chairs" will give those students who cannot remain steadily seated in a regular classroom chair an opportunity to move, to twist, to shift, to adjust their seat so they can continue to work and learn within a group or on assessments while still remaining at their desk.
