Ms. Wichtendahl from Alexandria VA is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students new chairs for our reading space! My students are working on building their reading stamina and growing in their interest in reading. Having a comfy place to sit makes the experience more exciting!
My students are K-6th graders. My classroom setting is for students with disabilities who are moderately impacted. Students in my classroom have a variety of disabilities including Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disabilities, Dyslexia, and Learning Disabilities. My students are at least 2-3 grade levels behind in math and language arts, but often more. They are all in my classroom to receive targeted and specialized instruction in their area(s) of need.
My classroom is a setting that supports students with a variety of factors that make learning harder for them- disabilities, socioeconomic conditions, English language learner status, and more.
My students love hands-on projects and really benefit from tactile activities, such as learning puzzles or practicing letter formation with play-doh. My students are funny and quirky kids who love taking dance breaks and playing with fidgets. My students are wonderful, sweet kiddos who I get to keep year after year throughout their elementary experience. I am able to build a relationship with them and watch their growth over the years. I am really lucky to be in my position and support my students in their academic growth!
We have a reading corner in our classroom for the students to read books in our classroom library. Our students love the reading corner and it's their favorite place to sit! We are currently working on building our reading stamina and improving our abilities to read silently.
With access to new, comfy seating, our students will be more interested and excited about the challenge of improving their reading!
My students are already invested in this space and take great care of the items we have. I'm really excited about this opportunity for them!
