This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are Title I students, which means they are from low-income backgrounds. They are hard-working and wonderful, but their financial situations are limited.

Despite their dire money situations, many of our kids are accepted to great universities such as UCLA and other distinguished universities.

They work hard and they play hard.

Most of our students have never played musical instruments before, and are experiencing music for the first time. In my classes, they learn to play a variety of instruments, and have performed small concerts in the classroom. They would like to record their compositions, so we could sure use some equipment!

My Project

Music is important to kids, and ukuleles are the perfect introductory instrument. It's a perfect match! I ran a terrific ukulele program at my previous school, and now I've moved to a new school that has ZERO ukuleles! I'm here to change that. When kids find it easy to grasp a new challenge, they get enthusiastic. The ukulele is a relatively easy instrument to learn, and leads to kids getting more deeply involved in learning to play music. School should be fun, exciting, enriching, challenging and musical. With a dozen ukuleles, I can begin a new program that will change kids' lives in a huge way. Thank you sooo much!
