My students need recording & listening equipment to work with their Chromebooks as we are becoming a 1-to-1 school! Our goal is to have durable equipment to support our educational programming!
We are a 6th-grade team learning about world cultures and collaborating with students around the globe in the Sustainable Development (Global) Goals. A new school is being finished for us over the summer and we will have 1-to-1 devices to enable collaborations! This year, we even met one of our partner teachers from Australia who surprised us on the last day of school!
We have been using Flipgrid and other collaboration tools to work with our global partners, and we will be moving into a new school space for the 2018-19 school year!
My Project
We have been developing relationships with global partners in our social studies class, and have been using collaboration tools like Flipgrid and iEARN.
For example, in the 2017-18 school year we lead a Global Collaboration Day project and hosted students from 95 countries in an online collaboration.
Students led the discussions and encouraged participants with feedback. This last year we used about a dozen iPads and personal devices to connect with global classrooms.
Next year, we will be in a new school building and each student will have his/her own Chromebook! We realized that the recording equipment I purchased last year did not stand up to daily use, and we will need better recording/listening equipment this year.
We researched USB-connected noise-canceling headphones with microphones and the ones in this Donors' Choose proposal were well-regarded for this price point. The headsets will stay in the classroom and attached to the side of each recording station (desk area) so that as students rotate classes with their devices, the equipment for recording will stay in the classroom where more students may use them.
