Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I’m excited to begin the 2025–2026 school year as a kindergarten teacher. I work at a low-income school that serves many newcomer students from Venezuela and Colombia. It is truly an honor to be the first educator to welcome them into their educational journey. This will be my third year teaching, and I’ve grown so much both personally and professionally. I feel more prepared than ever, and I’m eager to create a welcoming, organized, and well-equipped classroom environment for my students. However, due to financial limitations at our school and within many of our families, acquiring essential classroom resources can be a challenge. These materials will help ensure a strong start to the school year and support my students’ learning and development from day one.
The items I’m requesting—such as organizational supplies, learning materials, and basic classroom essentials—will directly support my students’ ability to focus, engage, and thrive in a structured learning environment.
These resources will help create a safe, consistent, and welcoming classroom where they can feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and building foundational skills in literacy, math, and social-emotional learning.
Some of the items I added to my project, like the vinyl and dry-erase dots, are intended to create a fun and engaging group table. The microphone will enhance my phonics lessons by making the sound of letters clearer, louder, and easier for students to hear and distinguish.
Other resources will support classroom management by contributing to incentives and the treasure box, helping to keep students motivated. Additionally, several materials are aimed at supporting student learning by keeping them organized and prepared.
My main goal is to provide a nurturing and supportive space and provide students with the tools they need to develop a love for learning, even as they adjust to a new environment and language.
