My Project
A library is a vital part of any school. A hub for learning, creativity, and making new friends in a communal space. However, in my school, the library is in a dire state. It is rarely used, with broken bookshelves, outdated books, and a lack of reading materials. It is also not a comfortable environment for students to spend their time in. I want to get more books and make the library a comfortable place for students.
Rather than letting it stay simply a place for reading and studying, I am also working on making it a maker-space and safe place for accessibility.
Our school’s library shares its building and library with two other schools, one of which is specifically a special needs school. There are also special needs classes in the two other schools that share the space. That is why I am hoping to add braille to the signage, make every part wheelchair accessible, and have a sensory area for those who need a reduction in the daily stresses of school life and an increase in focus during classes. These modifications will drastically improve the benefits wee can get out of a library space that currently is not being used.
