I am trying to acquire new mouthpieces and ligatures for my school owned woodwind band instruments. This would benefit my middle and high school band students greatly in developing their technique and sounding good on their instrument.
My school consists largely of low-income students from various multi-cultural backgrounds.
My high school and middle school band students participate in numerous concerts and other performances throughout the year for both their city and outside of the city. I am trying to acquire new mouthpieces for some of the school instruments that have simply worn out over time. This can make the instruments difficult if not impossible to produce a good tone on. Having new mouthpieces to play on will go a long way to making them feel much more successful.
My school system has an inventory of school owned woodwind instruments for students of all backgrounds to play. These instruments are getting older and the mouthpieces and ligatures that students use with these instruments are starting to wear out and in many cases are actually broken and unusable. I would like to pair up new mouthpieces with school owned instruments to replace those that are no longer usable.
My Project
These mouthpieces and ligatures are a big step up in quality and functionality for my tenor and baritone sax players in the middle and high school. Having equipment that works is a huge help in keeping students motivated. When students have the right equipment, they sound better and also feel better about the way they are playing. These factors can sometimes determine whether a student keeps going with their chosen instrument or decides to quit altogether. Here in my school district we are able to provide instruments to students who might not otherwise be able to afford to buy their own. In getting this new equipment, I believe that it will be a great motivator to these students.
