At my school, we believe that students thrive in environments where expectations are clear and consistent at all levels, and where students are known — not only by their peers, but by the entire school community. An emphasis on curriculum that places the student at the center of inquiry is the foundation for the school’s four critical learning “cornerstones”. These cornerstones are: rigorous academics, arts literacy, and personal and civic growth.
Through service learning, students bring the community into the classroom and extend the walls of the classroom out into the community.
Service learning offers a way to tie the curriculum to community action. Students identify community problems; design, implement, and evaluate action plans; and engage in ongoing personal reflection. Through these experiences, students become active, contributing members of the school community, the city of Hoboken, and beyond. In developing this approach, my school has developed relationships with a wide variety of individuals and groups within our community.
My Project
Hoboken Charter's first Lego League teams need a new kit. This kit will help replenish our depleted supply of Mindstorms pieces. Most of our pieces are now more than five years old. Through that time pieces get lost or damaged. These materials get used hard during the course of the season! This kit will help resupply the team so they are in good shape for next season.
By supporting this project you will make sure that all of our FLL teams have the parts they need.
This kit comes with many building components as well as a new EV3 brain and rechargeable battery. When prototyping robots, we are always short a brain or two, so this new kit will help more kids have a chance to directly build and then program a robot.
Our FLL program grows each year so please consider donating to help all the kids have a great experience. Thanks for your support!
