My Students

Northwest New Mexico can be pictured through winter strings games, thunderstorms, the smell of roasting green chiles, and the crowds at the Northern Navajo Nation Fair and the Connie Mack baseball tournament. The students within this district are extremely proud of their heritage and local culture. In Farmington we get to teach students of Hispanic, Native American (primarily Navajo) and Caucasian nationality. Despite our rural location, the kids are eager to learn about themselves, and the world outside of New Mexico.

My Project

This project includes 3 class sets of three different novels, each at a different reading ability level. This will allow not only different grade levels to use the books, but to also allow students who read above, or below, their class the chance to read something that isn't a dry textbook, nor a picturebook for younger students.

These novels will introduce life outside of our rural town to students and give them the ability to learn as a group.

Our hope is that these novels can be used to learn critical-thinking skills in context, and teach students who to read for enjoyment!
