This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a 2nd year lead teacher in Early Childhood, I am very appreciative to have my own classroom for the first time. My first year was spent teaching through a computer screen so this school year is an extra special one. My students are happy 3 and 4 year old kids. They like to dance, sing and talk about every big thing they see each day in and out of the classroom. Some like to build the "Washington monument" and towers with blocks, while others like to pretend they are chefs making different foods with playdough.

My Pre-K classroom is full of little people learning about their big feelings and how to self regulate, which takes a lot of time, patience and resources.

We have fun each day learning new things about each other through STEM (my favorite), literacy and play.

My Project

After a long day of learning through activities and play, our younger scholars deserve a safe and comfortable place to rejuvenate. These mats are much needed during this global pandemic, not only for scholars comfort while resting, but also their safety, as we continue to follow the suggested guidelines. These mats can also be recycled.

Young scholars aged 3 and 4 years old, have trouble keeping on their mask and staying 3 feet apart, but shouldn't have trouble sleeping during scheduled nap time.

They want to give hugs and high fives, while showing their smiles. I want their voices to be seen and heard and these mats will be a start to assist with that.
