The students who attend our school are a diverse mixture of kids with varying ethnicities, income levels, neighborhoods, and family structures. Our school is located in an urban setting near lower income neighborhoods, and while many of our students live in this neighborhood, we also have students from some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the city; several middle class neighborhoods and students currently living in shelters. Our students are Asian, Hmong, Mexican, African American, and Caucasian. They live in two parent homes, single parent homes, and no parent homes. The cultural representation we have is both exciting and challenging!
My Project
The resources I am asking for are tools that will support, enhance and extend my students' learning. I am asking for meter sticks, Scholastic Math Magazines and strategic thinking games called QUADEFY and Rational Thinking.
The way I see it, these materials could have a significant impact on student learning.
I'm imagining kids reading about math, in math, to increase their understanding of math! I'm also imagining kids collaborating while playing strategic games. And meter sticks, imagine the measurement fun!
I'd like to have a math classroom that supports students where they are, while also challenging them to go beyond where they thought they could. I believe these materials can help me get there.
