The students at our school come from multicultural, multilingual, and multi-socioeconomic backgrounds. Our classrooms include advanced students, second language learners, struggling students, students with special needs, and everything in between.
Our diversity is what makes our school as unique as the world language we offer for foreign language credit: American Sign Language (ASL).
Our school is the only one in our district that offers ASL and the only one within 30 miles from any other district.
My Project
In this new realm of distance learning, it is imperative that both teachers and students have up to date technology. This computer will be used by me, the teacher, to teach over 200 students. While we are distance learning, it will remain at my home until we return to brick and mortar schooling, where it will add to the speed and efficiency of teaching in my classroom.
A new laptop computer would allow for better computer processing, better software compatibility, more hard drive space for storage, and an overall better system to help my students navigate this uncharted online territory.
As their teacher, I would be better able to download videos to upload to learning management systems, would be able to store more jpegs and gifs needed to create lesson plans and assessments, would be able to record video lessons, would be able to archive student videos for future generations, and would have a faster and updated operating system which is more compatible to new technology.
Working on old, slow, computers has made the transition to distance learning even harder. This new computer will help so much in a future that is almost guaranteed to include some form of distance education. It is imperative that we give our teachers access to the newest technology in our effort to have a more equitable playing field for all.
