My Students
In my short time at MHS, the students have amazed me with their eager attitudes, hunger for music, and willingness to try anything. I was aware of the great legacy the school already has but know that music and the arts haven't been funded the way they used to be. The school is a Title I funded school, which means that over two-thirds of the students come from a low income household. Even so, the students have already made leaps and bounds in their playing, and their most recent concert was considered their best in years!
My students do the most amazing things with the least amazing instruments.
The instruments are old, some are broken, some even barely work. Yet, my kids perform level 3-5 music and attend festivals and parades. Even beyond that, they aid the local elementary schools with private tutoring and middle school prep. This band program truly is a family and these students make it what it is. They are truly amazing and deserve the help that you would be able to provide.
My Project
We are a blossoming band program and in order to be successful we need to have all of the instruments available to the students. Double Reeds are a difficult instrument to fill sometimes because the reed used is not only very fragile but very expensive in comparison to single reed instruments like clarinet and saxophone.
These reeds will make the program more successful and provide kids the chance to try these instruments!
Not only that but the purchase of the tuners will also make it possible to play these instruments in the correct way. They are notorious for being difficult to play so we are trying to give the students all the tools necessary to succeed!
