it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are talented musicians with whom I have the pleasure of making music every single day. No two of them are alike and they form a strong family within the instrumental music program at our school. They all have the passion to play music and bring with them a variety of skills and talents from their unique personal situations. They all come from different home situations, education levels, cultural backgrounds, and self-identities.
With their strong passion and talent, there are still many students who do not have the ability to own their own instrument or to obtain private lessons, so we work to providing the highest quality materials, instruction, and educational opportunities here at our school each and every day.
They are hard-working and resourceful and worth all the love and support I can give them to develop into better musicians and people.
My Project
Many of my students do not have the ability to own their own instrument, but we are lucky to provide them with one, even if not always the newest or best quality. We do our best to keep the instruments themselves repaired and useable but often the mouthpieces that go with them are not high quality or have been worn down after many years of use. Many woodwind mouthpieces have chips in them- students are playing on generic (no brand) mouthpieces with chips in them! This project will allow many more students to play on brand new mouthpieces with good ligatures that will improve their sound immediately! Especially during this COVID time, it is important to get new, sanitary and high quality materials to our students to allow them to enjoy making music again or for the very first time!
