This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are sixth, seventh, and eighth-graders at an urban bilingual school. My school is a special place and a community. Teachers and students alike are happy to be in school and are excited and eager to learn.
They love reading and discussing books!
My Project
I am always looking to have a variety of independent reading books in my classroom. I hear about so many great new young adult books every year, and it is important to keep my shelves updated.
With the possibility of blended online/in-person learning looming for the fall, I want to make sure I have a variety of engaging books, both in terms of reading level and content.
In this project, I chose a variety of book types, including black, Muslim, Native American, Asian, Latino, and LGBTQ protagonists. I always want to make sure that my classroom library both reflects my student population, and provides windows to worlds they know less about.
