I work with a lot of students with trauma and IEPs, that are learning to regulate their emotions. My goal is to try and create a calm, relaxing and safe environment always. They know they can always come talk to me and I will listen and try to help if I can.
I would like to make my art classroom visually and aesthetically calm and relaxing when students are creating artwork so they can take a break from being overstimulated, especially by fluorescent lighting.
I would like to have two reward chairs or decompression process (safe space) bean bag chairs next to a rug and a Himalayan lamp and using art boards to draw on while regaining composure or enjoying the reward earned. To create this corner, I will need to move tables that we store projects on and use a shelving unit to help with gaining the necessary space for this safe/ reward space. I would also like a tall tabletop table to use as a tier two table area for one-on-one instruction. The chair on wheels will help me to sit at each of my six art tables and interact with students. The Fluorescent Light Covers would be used to reduce the glare of harsh lights. This would bring much joy to the students and myself in the art classroom.
