My Students

The students I teach are in grades K-5, at two different public elementary schools. Each class comes to me every other week for art. Art class is where they can delve into art concepts while connecting with things like science, math, language arts, and social studies.

I love watching students try new things and hearing them express pride in their artwork!

It is great to be able to provide a space for learning at school through the arts. Having art supplies to use at school brings joy and an opportunity for learning that they might not otherwise have had. During times like a pandemic, having an opportunity to create can be a good way to relieve stress and express oneself!

My Project

My students have had a variety of experiences during COVID-- including at-home learning, in-person learning, and for some, a combination of the two! When we were doing distance learning, I focused on using supplies that they likely had at home. Now that many are back in school, I am expanding their experiences with art!

Using gelli plates and scratchboard will allow students to experience art using tools they will likely not have at home!

Printmaking and etching are two different techniques that can help bring joy and excitement to the learning process! The great thing about these gelli plates is that they can be used year after year, giving hundreds of children the opportunity to use them in the future! Likewise, the mirrors will be used to assist many students in creating self-portraits. Art is a wonderful place to provide both academic and social-emotional learning benefits for students, especially during stressful times. Thank you for your support of this project!
