My Students

All of my classes are secondary math II so most of my students are sophomores with a few juniors and even a couple of seniors. The sophomores are in their first year at our high school so there are a lot of new and somewhat scary things for them. Most are very willing to learn math and get through the class but only a few see the value of what we're learning beyond this class. The gender split is close to even and the diversity in the classes is probably close to the school average. I have some very gifted students as well as some that are struggling, some that have IEP's and/or 504 plans, and a few english language learners.

I love to hear comments from my students like, "I didn't think math was fun before this class." I try to use diverse activities to show the real life application of what we're learning.

We do a lot of group work and my students do well at helping each other learn and grow.

My Project

These materials will help show that learning is fun as well as important. There are a few books that will help show how the math concepts we're covering will be used in every day real life. I also hope those books will let me offer some fun, challenging and interesting problems for the students to solve.

This is my first year teaching so I am also requesting several items that will help with classroom set up and management.

Personal whiteboards that can be used during instruction, geometry tools to use on paper as well as on the whiteboard during instruction. Basic classroom supplies also include staplers, three hole punches, folders, and whiteboard magnets.
