My Students
A typical day in my classroom for young learners with autism has them rotating around fun and kinetic stations, and gathering all together for circle time and SmartBoard lessons. One of our biggest challenges is differentiating for language needs during whole group instruction.
My school is a tight knit community that embraces students with learning differences.
My students with autism are treated like any other student in the school and we have high academic expectations for them that are tailored to their individual needs.
My Project
My classroom has little stations set up around the perimeter of the class. In the front and center is a fabulous SmartBoard and a very tired looking carpet, the place where we gather as a whole class. Whole group instruction is special for students - as it is the time they get to show off all of their learning and start generalizing material in a larger group.
Our rug has been in the classroom longer than we have. We need a fresh, clean, bright rug to gather on. At the new rug, we will be able to flex our knowledge during circle time, sing fun songs and play games during choice time, read with general education buddies, and learn science and social studies lessons at the SmartBoard.
This new carpet will make our classroom an engaging and welcoming environment that students will take care to keep tidy and clean.
All students deserve an inviting classroom and this carpet will let us enjoy our learning space better.
