New Broadcast Equipment Will Benefit All K. Intermediate School Students!

My Project

As a teacher at K. Intermediate School, I have taken on the responsibility to grow our broadcast program. We encourage students to build various skills as well as to expose them to careers they may have not thought about before.

One of those opportunities is the broadcast program.

Broadcast students create a 5 minute newscast which is produced daily. Students are responsible for scriptwriting, reporting, filming, sound mixing, directing, and doing all the technical and creative aspects of a real newscast. Topics include announcements, student accomplishments, weather, and lunch menu, and is watched by the entire school as part of 1st period. So the impact of the broadcast program is quite significant at our school.

To give the students a true professional broadcasting experience, certain equipment is needed. A camera tally light system and pro-grade studio headphones are essential. The Hollyland camera tally light system consists of a small tally light mounted on each camera, which glows red when the camera is “live on-air”. The tally light glows green when it is not live. The tally light system is crucial.

The Audio-Technica pro-grade studio headphones are essential for students to critically determine the sound quality of voices, music, and effects. Students will mix sources to create an aesthetically balanced sound that meets the technical standards of TV stations. Sound is often overlooked, but it is the foundation of broadcasting.

We are asking for your assistance in obtaining these items to help the students enhance their project based learning abilities. They will also gain independence and build the skills to create broadcasts with high production values and to grow our broadcast program. Documentaries, drama, and live-streaming the school band performances are on the list for future projects. My students are especially enthusiastic and hardworking.
