This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If I could describe my students in one word, I would say they are courageous. Many students that you can find are nice or hardworking, but there are times when life gets hard and many would just give up on life, or at school, or in learning an instrument, but my students don't.

My students go up against so much, but they are a community of fighters, fearless, with the heart to press on and up and out, whether in music, in school or in life in general.

I have students who care for siblings and work jobs to support their families alongside their parents while going to school. I have students struggling with severe chronic physical and emotional pains, with severe hardships they should not have to bear, but they don't complain, and they don't give up. They are resilient. They dream of bigger things and they contribute to the music we make every day.

With ever dwindling resources for music in schools, we need your help to purchase new strings, rosin, shoulder rests and other supplies, so that more students like them can have the chance to experience playing in a well equipped string orchestra.

My Project

We need new bows to replace old and dirty bow hair and cracking bow sticks and pieces falling off of our current bows. The bow is the stick of wood or synthetic fiber with horsehair attached that violin, viola, and other bowed string instrument players use to draw across the strings and produce a tone. The better the bow hair is, the better the sound you can get. The bows also have to be in good condition, well balanced, and with working parts. New bows from Glasser cost about as much as getting new hair on our current bows, so new bows is a better value, and my students will be able to play with a better tone, and better understand how their technique with the bow affects the sound making possibilities on the instrument.
