I work at a Title I school with 100% of students who qualify for free lunch in Oakland. My students come from all different backgrounds and from all different cultures. Many of my students struggle academically and have high behavior needs, for various reasons. Over this past year, I've found ways to support many of my struggling students and help them to stay focused, build their self-esteem and become more independent. However, this is a never-ending process and some of my students struggle daily to believe in themselves.
With my students, I emphasize the importance of them wanting to learn and knowing that they are capable of learning.
From there, I can lead them in the right direction and help to give them the support and tools that they need.
My Project
Books are one of the most important things in a child's life. As a teacher I am constantly reading to my students and making sure they are surrounded by a wide variety of literature! However, classroom libraries are often underfunded, if funded at all.
I aim to keep my classroom library full of interesting books that spark my students interest.
This project will allow me to get rid of some of our outdated books and replace them with new storylines, characters and adventures. It will also help provide a new shelf for those books, one that is more durable than what we already have.
Help bring our project to life and get new books in the hands of my incredible students.
