This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a reading teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure I have a literacy rich classroom with engaging books. As school curriculum has moved away from reading entire novels during instructional time, it is more important than ever for students to have an opportunity to read for fun and have access to physical books.
Having dedicated time to read books of choice is the single most important experience we can offer students to improve their literacy.
With your generous donation, we can stock the shelves of our classroom library with new book titles that will motivate kids to grab a book and experience reading for joy.
Allowing time and space for independent choice reading in my classroom has been incredibly impactful for my students. When I see kids who have never finished a book before delighted by their accomplishment or the kids who are shocked to be able to call themselves readers, I am reminded that books are magic.
We only become better at reading by reading. By providing kids with engaging physical books to read, we are allowing them to improve their literacy in a joyful and meaningful way. The confidence that comes from reading and their improved skills translate into success across all subjects.
