This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My English tenth-grade students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second, third or even fourth language. My students are from more than 20 countries and speak more than six different languages.
My students are amazing recent immigrants who work part-time jobs, take care of family members, play sports and attend our after-school programs.
My students travel from all neighborhoods of the city to pursue their dreams and achieve their postsecondary goals.
My Project
This project consists of 24 different graphic novels, nonfiction texts, and poetry books that will support students' literacy and a love for reading during our winter quarter of 10th grade . I have carefully selected books that reflect my students' interests so that they can fall in love with reading.
This project will give my high school English students 24 new books to read as they build their love for reading.
During our class, I set aside 5-15 minutes of independent reading every day, and students also have reading at home. Students are finishing books every week, and this donation will help keep students motivated and engaged.
