Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My scholars have developed a new hunger and passion for reading! At first, they believed they didn't like reading. We've quickly changed that perspective, and now we need more books to read! As a class we have finished the Percy Jackson Series, Diary of the Wimpy Kid Series, and Baby-Sitter's Club Series. We're eager to dive into more!

The goal is for my scholars to remain consistent in their reading, expanding their knowledge and vocabulary even more, as well as giving them different perspectives on life itself.

I'm super proud of my scholars, increasing their literary skills as well as understanding the importance of being productive in their down time. Every student in my homeroom keeps a book on hand to read whenever they are finished with their classwork, a habit I think will benefit them greatly long-term.

The goal is for them to eventually transition into non-fiction books, helping them become even more knowledgeable, but for right now fiction has been a great start in buying them into the joy of reading.
