This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My English classroom is a place where you can find a wide variety of learning styles, not to mention an extreme gap in reading levels, and a wide interest in reading genres. It is a place of challenge and discovery. Students spend 8-9 periods a week inside my English classroom. My goal as a teacher is to make English fun, enjoyable, rewarding and most importantly to help my students BECOME PROFICIENT READERS!
The students whom I teach are 6th and 7th graders in a Title I school.
English is not just about writing and grammar; but English is also about READING and opening your imagination to new wonders! The students whom I teach hold a wide range of reading lexile levels and their interest in genres are greatly widened.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives by providing choice and engaging reading material that will enable them to practice building their reading stamina while enjoying the material. The books on our wishlist are books that my actual students are requesting. They are eager for new reading material that is both educational and inspiring.
Mythology is just one part of our curriculum and my students are extremely intrigued by the content that they are requesting sequels to what we are reading in class.
It is inspiring as a teacher to see how excited students get when they know that there is an opportunity to build our classroom library with engaging material.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
