Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The 4rd graders in my class are truly amazing. They come to school everyday ready to work and are excited about the day, even with the struggles they may face outside of the classroom. Many of my students speak a language other than English at home. My students come from an urban, low-income city comprised largely of immigrant families. The key to success with my students is making the learning engaging, real, independent and powerful. My students have a variety of strengths and with your help I can give them opportunities of a lifetime.
My Project
I have been incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to travel with my 2017-18 class from 3rd grade to 4th grade. This class is truly amazing, and we are excited to embark on a new year of learning.
At the beginning of the year I challenged my students to choose a chapter book that they would try to finish by a date they set and not only have they accepted the challenge, they have surpassed even their own expectations.
Through donations over the summer and used book stores I was able to add to the classroom library so not all the books were familiar from 3rd grade, however my students are excited to read more than ever and have requested MORE BOOKS for their library. They requested everything from graphic novels, books about their home countries, informational books, and Harry Potter. We are very excited to dive into more books and different genres! Thank you so much!
