This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students in the weight room is that you get to see who they really are. There is no hiding behind a desk or blending into the background. Every rep, every set, every moment of effort reveals something. You see discipline being built in real time. You see frustration, resilience, confidence, and growth. Some students walk in unsure of themselves, and within weeks, they are moving with purpose, calling out encouragement to others, and taking pride in their work. That transformation is the reason the weight room matters.

The weight room also fosters a culture hard to replicate anywhere else.

Students learn quickly that progress is earned, not given. They begin to understand that consistency beats talent when talent fails. What stands out is how often they start to hold each other accountable. A student who once needed constant reminders becomes the one checking form, counting reps, or pushing a teammate to finish strong. That shift from passive participant to active leader is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching in this space.
