This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are the best! They bring a diversity of cultures, interests, and learning levels that are not found in most schools. In my year of teaching Language Arts and reading, I have seldom experienced such a vast spectrum of rich individual experiences as well as the challenge of meeting such needs.
Learning enviroment is critical in providing students a comfortable, safe, and interesting space to learn.
In order to create a diverse, literacy-rich environment, it is imperative that I am able to provide many avenues for students to connect to their passions and strengths as well as work to build on existing skills. My end goal as an educator is for my students to leave my class understanding that they matter, understanding that their opinions are important, and mostly that what they know can change the world for the better.
My Project
An engaging learning environment increases students’ attention and focus, promotes meaningful learning experiences, encourages higher levels of student performance, and motivates students to practice higher-level critical thinking skills. Coming to a brand new school has me starting over to create such an environment for my students. From a comfortable chair for reading, colorful reminders of content, and materials to aid in organization, I want the classroom to be a space my students want to be. When students feel comfortable, they are better prepared to learn. One of the most important things I can give my students is the feeling that the classroom is ours and that they feel positivity in its every detail.
