Help me give my students new backpacks to start their year off right.
This year the Parent-Coordinator and I wanted to help the children in K4-1st grade start their school year off with their very own backpack.
When the school year begins most children get to come to school with a brand new backpack. Sadly, for the children I work with a new backpack is a luxury they can't always afford. More times that I care to think about my students, and often students from other classes, will ask for a plastic bag to take their things home in. Having to send a child home with a plastic bag full of their homework or projects is hard. I want to be able to give them a backpack so they don’t have to feel embarrassed about needing a plastic bag for their work.
