New Art Teacher Needs New Art Supplies

My students need hand building materials for sculpture projects, painting materials and drawing materials.

My Students

In a typical day, I see to it that 130 students in grades K-6 have the supplies and knowledge needed to be able to create and finish art projects. I am a new art teacher and am starting with very little. I would like my students to have enough materials to work with for the rest of this year.

My elementary students are attending public school and are living in an urban community.

They are very enthusiastic about making art and would like to participate in more artistic opportunities given if we had the appropriate number of supplies. It is very challenging teaching 680 students and having to come up with the materials myself.

My Project

My students will be able to keep up with a solid art curriculum provided by the district and state for the rest of the 2014 school year. Students in K-6 will be using these materials to create painting and drawing projects. The will be able to acquire, tempera and acrylic paint, color pastels, drawing charcoal, canvas, watercolor paper and plaster Paris strips. Students will be able to use these materials to practice the fundamentals of art and follow the state frameworks.

It is my first year teaching in this school and I do not receive an art budget.

I have a very supportive parent/school community, but even with asking for donations it is hardly enough for the entire student body.Teaching art to elementary students has taught me how important it is to have art programs in schools in place and also how teaching students how to innovate and create new ideas forms a springboard for achieving future success in other subjects and areas.
