Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our low income students LOVE art! We have been blessed to have a second art and digital photography class added this year. Unfortunately, as the new art teacher, I am walking into an empty classroom and am hoping fill my supply closet to help my students have a GREAT year!
This is my first year teaching at this middle school, so I have yet to meet my students.
What I do know is that it is a low income school and our students love to be there and create art. Through out the year we will create great art, participate in shows and contest, and create art to sell at the Main Street Arts Festival.
My Project
I have requested drawing paper, markers, glue, paint, and a glass fusing kit which will allow my students to express themselves creatively in a variety of media, both in and out of the art classroom. Having these materials will help fund our after school art club, which gives students an opportunity for individual attention they may not otherwise have. Students in our art club will gain confidence by selecting their own projects, to include fused glass jewelry, which they will later have the opportunity to sell.
Art gives students a chance to express themselves in ways they may not be able to otherwise.
It is also important for students to be able to try a variety of media, so that they can find what they love to create with. These supplies will help my students express themselves, bolster their self esteem, and give them a sense of empowerment by having the opportunity to sell their creations.
