My students need various construction paper, watercolor and acrylic paper, air dry clay, oil pastels, plastic palettes, tempera paint and paint brushes to create art.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gomez's classroom raised $600

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up," said Picasso, and my students need to be given the opportunity to explore the artist in them by having access to the different mediums.
I will be teaching art to all the first graders in the dual language (Spanish Immersion) classes at a public charter school in Southern California.
The majority of our students are of Hispanic/Latin decent and 79% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
My Project
All these art materials requested will allow the students to demonstrate creative expression using construction paper, oil pastels, water color tools, painting supplies and/or modeling clay. Afterward they will be able to evaluate and discuss works of art created in the classroom, focusing on selected elements of art (e.g., shape/form, texture, line, color). The project would expose them to different mediums than just crayons and markers, and give them the skills to look at a work of art and discuss it.
I don't know how I would teach art to my students without these materials and I would be doing a disservice to them if I limit their creativity because of a lack of materials.
I will be teaching art to 60 creative first graders and through their hands on learning I want them to be able to answer such essential questions like: Why do artists create art?; How does culture influence your art?; and What is a work of art?
