My students come to school and are excited to learn new things everyday. They keep me on my toes with their inquisitive minds and their desire to work in collaborative groups. Our school is a Title One school. We are located in a small community where every student is given the opportunity to become a lifelong learner. My goal as their teacher is to provide a comfortable environment for them to care about their work in and outside the classroom.
Creating a cozy classroom environment has been one of my goals over the last four years. Little by little, my students are getting new seating options. I have made crate chairs, purchased pillows and I have a few other flexible seating options available. My second graders love their different choices!
The bean bags and floor seats will give the warm cozy feeling of being at home.
Sitting still in a typical classroom chair is very challenging. I provide as many opportunities as possible for brain breaks and dancing. But many times while I'm teaching a lesson, I have students sitting on their knees or rocking back in their chairs to the point of sometimes rocking back too far and falling! If my students had a choice to sit in a different seat for a lesson, they would be thrilled. The bean bags and floor seats will be a great addition to their choices.
