Our school is an academically successful, rural high school that is filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. We serve our military community. Our students are smart, athletic, and driven to succeed.
In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
We are proud of our success in the classroom.
On September 13, 2018, our community was hit hard by Hurricane Florence. Again, in 2019, we were hit by Hurricane Dorian. Although the hurricanes might have re-shaped us, they won't define us. Even though the storms seem so long ago, some of us are still in recovery mode. We were "CarteretStrong" then and my students remain that way now: strong, resilient, and flexible.
We are fortunate to have a group of students who are especially hard-working, tenacious, and willing to go the distance to succeed. Our student-athletes are leaders in our school and I am very proud of them.
And now, we are dealing with a pandemic and distance learning.
My Project
This project will provide four portable nets to be used among the athletic teams at our awesome high school. These are 17-foot nets and will be used as a fun warm-up activity or closing activity by our athletic squads. All the students like to practice their drills and skills in clever fun ways. With the nets, the volleyball coach and team will have a delineated area to use, as will the soccer team. teams can play a rousing game of pickleball to get warmed up or challenge each other with a game of badminton. In our high school, our nets are used and used and even sometimes abused by the exuberance of our athletic teams and their competitive spirit. Please help us get new nets, because as you know, SPORTS MATTER.
