Needy, Needy School Supplies for ESL Students

My students need 35 binders and dry erase markers to keep their homework and worksheets in order.

My Students

I have 30 wonderful and bright students. I work in a neighborhood school in Chicago. I teach ESL and special education students language arts, math, science, social studies, health, and a zillion life lessons a day. It is an extremely diverse area and the students in our school are from various backgrounds, making our class a melting pot of ethnicities. There are six different languages spoken in my classroom, and it represents a wide variety of individuals with different social and economic backgrounds.

The school where I work is great.

The principal/staff all work together to benefit student learning. I have been working at this school for sixteen years. Unfortunately, the school lacks funds to purchase necessary supplies that are greatly needed. The school cannot provide the funds needed to purchase materials since we face tough budget cuts this year. As an educator, I continually try to find what will be the best for my students. This at times is very difficult, but can be accomplished. My school would be able to purchase materials for students, but unfortunately there are no funds available at this time.

My Project

Students can have great success when the teacher provides the essential tools and materials for their learning. Not providing these materials can make learning more difficult for the students. These binders will be of great help for all subject areas that we do on a daily basis. With these binders, my students will be able to complete classwork and homework assignments. For Science, my students are doing projects based on experiments that they will display for the school. For math, students will be building geometric figures, that is why the binders and dry erase markers are necessary. Having the appropriate essentials like binders will help students with classwork, notes, and organization. The binders are especially essential because the students can keep important papers and school agendas in their binders. I have had the opportunity to use binders with the students for about 5 years and they are great at keeping the students organized.
