My school recently went back to a 7 period day which we haven’t had since distance learning. This has made the arts even more accessible to all students from freshman to senior year. With the schedule change, I have been able to have 2 periods of Draw/Paint 2, the first time ever at my school. However, with this increase, our supply budget (and inflation) has made this more challenging for my students to have access to all the supplies they need and deserve.
These Canson XL Mixed Media sketchbooks are the backbone of my art classroom, they are used throughout the year for students to reflect upon their own art as well as past and contemporary artworks, practice their observational drawing skills, media exploration and develop their artistic voice.
The quality of the paper in the sketchbook can handle many materials, from charcoal to acrylic and the quantity of the pages can usually cover the entire year of creating. Their sketchbook becomes a refuge and a place to explore; students’ investment into their sketchbook is instantaneous, one of their first projects is creating a cover that displays their interests, values and individuality. Most students at the end of the school year keep their sketchbook as a record of their efforts and achievements, treating them almost as a yearbook.
