This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My sixth graders are a very energetic and and creative bunch of kiddos! They do not enjoy the run of the mill textbook drills. They love hands-on projects, things they can draw and color, and ways they can question, research and investigate. Ours is a Title One school in which the majority of our students come from low income households,(seventy-three percent), and so supplies are hard to come by for projects and even simple poster making.
My kids love to get creative so I am hoping to get some new materials to get them engaged and keep them motivated!
My Project
Allowing us to incorporate some more projects and hands-on work in both math and science, will make learning more fun and engaging for all of my kiddos. With items such as plastic shrink fil and a button maker, we can make wearable projects that they can design themselves incorporating facts. This is a fun and creative way for them to show what they learn.
Basic supplies such as glue, crayons, markers and paper go a long way in allowing students to design diagrams, posters, pamphlets or comic book cells showing what they learn.
This too, is a more creative way for them to learn math and science when compared to worksheets and traditional textbook materials. I am hoping to allow my students a less traditional, more creative approach to get the same curriculum they need through this year!
