This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I have a lofty reading goal. I want all of my 27 students to read for a minimum of 30 minutes a day, average 85% or higher on computer comprehension quizzes, and read within their individual reading zones. I need three book bins to keep our books organized.

I teach 27 eager first grade students who enjoy learning how to read, write, and do math.

My students range from gifted and talented to below grade level. We are proud to be a Nationally Recognized School of Excellence and have won many prestigious awards. Since we are not a Title I school, funding extra projects is very difficult!

My Project

I am requesting an electric stapler and staples to quickly staple student work for reading and math centers. I run centers twice a day to give small groups of students the opportunity to practice reading fluently and encouraging students to sound out unfamiliar words. I need a reliable stapler to make work packets for the children who are working independently while I teach several small reading groups. We also need 3 seat sacks to store books, pencils, and other school supplies. The 3 seat sacks I am requesting will replace 3 seat sacks that are damaged and falling apart.

Each student has a reading goal and must average 85% or higher on comprehension quizzes.

We need three book bins to organize our books based on reading levels. For example, one bin would hold kindergarten to early first grade level books. Another bin would hold medium level first grade books, and the third bin will hold beginning chapter books for advanced readers.

Almost every wall and board in my room is a whiteboard which is the reason I need a bucket of strong magnets. I use the magnets to display writing, art, and motivational posters. Finally, I am requesting two mega packs of smelly stickers to hand out to students who have mastered one of 99 first grade math standards.

Each day, I run a computerized report which tells me which students mastered a new math level. My students love collecting these special stickers and enjoying putting them in their own sticker book.
