This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am excited to have the same group of students this upcoming school year. They are sweet, compassionate, and supportive towards one another. Whether it was helping a fellow classmate clean their desk, work on a math problem, or summarize their responses in a discussion. They have a strong sense of community that they have developed in their years together. I can’t wait to have the chance to work with them again this year as their math teacher. I know as a math teacher, not every student loves math. The students in this class tried their best every single day and always had a passion to learn.
They thrived in our weekly STEM challenges where they were able to work together and problem solve in various ways.
I loved seeing them discuss their ideas, carry them out, and find solutions to their problems. No matter how challenging the activity got, they never gave up.
The majority of these students are ELLs who face challenges in an English dominant world of academics but they come in to my math class everyday with a willingness to learn and the promise that we will have fun in the process.
My Project
My students need noise cancelling headphones for remote learning in order to better focus on the learning during our meetings and independent work time.
The reality of learning from home is there are so many distractions.
Imagine student’s who have younger siblings playing loudly in the next room, 3 other siblings in video calls with their teachers, their dog barking at the mail man, mom washing pots and pans in the kitchen. How could you focus on math work or hear your teacher give the days lesson? Some of my students have siblings learning from home and pets as well as other relatives. If they do not have a private place to learn and work, they can use noise cancelling headphones to help drown out any background noise. My students do not need any more factors affecting their learning this school year. Please help me support the creation of a positive and effective learning environment at home for my students.
