Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade at a Title I school that teaches students who are military dependents. 99% of our student population have a mom or dad who is serving one of the armed forces.
Supplies are running low. We are limited on the amount of copying that we do because of budget cuts. We copy our work on this beautiful dotted lined paper that we copy for students on a duplicating machine to practice handwriting, make rough drafts, and make final copies. We are limited in the amount we copy and the students are also becoming more limited to their production to improve their written work. All year long we write poetry, narratives, reports, and friendly letters. But we will be limited in our skills to achieve proficient work if we do not have appropriate supplies to practice our writing skills if we run out of copies and paper. Newsprint is sometimes available but students end up tearing paper when they make mistakes and have to erase. They need stronger white handwriting paper that has the dotted lines to help them create neat and clean copies. They need good pencils that become dull after a few sentences and good erasers to help their written work look neat.
Our students need handwriting paper that helps them to write neatly and create writing pieces that everyone can read and enjoy. Second grade students love to write and we want to encourage more opportunities for them to write in different genres. But we need handwriting lined paper for them to produce these writing pieces. They also need pencils and erasers that will help them to get the job done more efficiently.
You can make it possible for students to enjoy writing and have the freedom to create different stories, poetry, and other genres by providing them with paper, pencils and erasers they need to be creative writers.
