Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Beginning & Advanced Band along with Music Appreciation. The student body is made up of an equal balance of ethnicity. The music department teaches grades 9 through 12 and has had a strong tradition in performing for the student body and parents.
I would like to move the students from "just talking about music", to actually performing it! The best and "cheapest" way to do so is by teaching piano. However, our school has lost a great amount of available funds due to decreased funding for the arts programs!
By having a keyboard placed within our classroom, we can set up a "mini piano lab". In this lab I can use my own personal keyboard to give instructions and the students can follow along.
I believe that every student, regardless of social or economic background should be afforded the opportunity to play an instrument. If we had these instruments available, I feel that we would be able to provide music lessons to all of our students!
