Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 3rd grade students work hard every day to work on mastering all the complexities of becoming a proficient reader. However, our classroom library is not meeting the needs of the diverse interests and needs of my students. Please help put books on the shelves that students won't be able to resist!

My students mostly come from hard-working Spanish speaking families.

My school is a public K-8 span school in a low-income neighborhood. The community and families are very supportive and show their commitment to their child's education by attending school functions whenever possible. We are a brand-new community-based school committed to providing the best educational experience for all students. Although many of my students are not able to get reading/homework support at home due to language differences, they are enthusiastic about learning and come to school ready to learn.

My Project

The books listed for this project vary in genre and reading levels to meet the diverse interests and needs of 3rd grade readers. My hope and goal for ordering these books is to create an inviting classroom library where students can find books on topics they are curious about and most importantly, learn to love reading! During Readers' Workshop, students will go on adventures, learn about our world, discover imaginary worlds, and befriend new characters. While students are engaged in reading independently, I will have the opportunity to work closely with individual and small groups of students to provide focused, differentiated instruction to guide them to the next reading level.

When a child is paired with a "Just Right" book, magic happens.

I've witnessed on many occasions where reluctant readers become voracious readers almost immediately when they find that one special book. Your support could help put that one special tome into a child's hands and open up a whole new world of endless possibilities for the student!
