Do you remember having materials in the classroom that just were not what you needed. I want to make sure my students have exactly what they need with the new reading series that we are getting. To do that I need help with books that are recommended to complement this program.
I will have a lively bunch of over 20 kindergarten students at a Title I school in Tennessee.
Many of my students do not have access to books and materials at home. I have made it my mission to provide as many books and enrichment materials in the class as I can. I want to give them every chance to succeed that is possible and available. This is a new program but it is geared toward this grade better than many other programs. This will not impact only my class but will be shared among all of the kindergarten classes.
My Project
When I get my students, most of them are unable to read or recognize letters. I expose them to new material each day. Sadly, I do not have a books to share with them that correspond with this new series. With the books I am requesting, my students would be able to look at the pictures and words repeatedly for exposure. This exposure would be tremendous to them.
Our school district is facing such a shortage that we are not even adopting a new reading series.
We are also cutting positions and support staff. We were so fortunate to find this limited amount of funds to support kindergarten. There are no more funds to support us so I am doing what I can, but I know I need as much help as I can get. I am not doing this just for my class but our entire kindergarten program.
