I am so blessed to work with my incredible students and community. I teach 6th-12th graders instrumental, choral and theater arts. I have been teaching in the same school for 35 years. I am excited every day to teach these enthusiastic music and theater students. I love the fact that these students have grown up together and they understand all sides of their peers. They are kind, helpful and aware of all their peers and they take time to make sure that everyone is taken care of. We are a very small school in a very small community, but we have been a Grammy Enterprise Award Winner in 2009 and a Grammy Signature School Semi-Finalist or Finalist for 16 years. We have been awarded the NAMM Support Music Merit Award for the last 5 years. We have Gold Medal Awards in Vocal competitions in New York, Denver, and Colorado Springs. Our choir has been asked to sing the National Anthem at the University of Colorado basketball games, The Denver Rockies and Denver Nuggets games and Denver Rapids Soccer games.
We are small but mighty.
Many of our amazingly talented students have not had an opportunity to be on a plane or to travel outside of our state. Every four years we organize a trip to New York City for the Select Choir and the HS Orchestra. This is once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to experience a high quality competition experience and a performance at St. Johns Cathedral as well as seeing a Broadway Show, the Empire State Building and the 9/11 Museum, as well as taking in the sights in Times Square and attending a Dinner Cruise on the Hudson to see the Statue of Liberty at night.
The memories they will make in New York will change these students' lives, but not all the students are able to afford the trip.
Our community is very small and while the community members and businesses are very supportive of the arts at the high school, they are constantly being asked for financial support for sports, class activities, field trips, Prom, etc.. This is why we are branching out to get support from you.
