Necessary Tools: A Laptop to Support Teaching SPED Students

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students beat the odds every single day. Most come from low-income housing. Most live in The Bronx. Most are either immigrants or first generation Americans. Most try to make the best possible outcomes day in and day out. All of my students have so much potential to make incredible versions of themselves. I know that even though they may have missed an assignment or had a rough start to their day, that they are trying in the face of constant adversity to their development. Others may see youth and think they have them all figured out because of how they look or present themselves. My students don't care, because they know themselves. Yet, through it all, they keep trying to force a future where they are thriving.
My Project
My laptop crashed and is beyond repair. Students will benefit from this because they will be able to use materials made with a MacBook Air, including but not limited to: graphic organizers, essay outlines, recorded videos to demonstrate instructions, and recorded class lessons.
Additionally, the goal for students will be to complete classwork and understand science and English class lessons in order for them to be on track to graduate high school.
Having proper technological tools in order to support these student goals will be essential.
Furthermore, I will be able to track data in order to inform teaching practice with the aim of tackling student language and comprehension needs, benefiting student learning. Lastly, students will greatly benefit by being able to use Nearpod and and Zoom simultaneously, as well as be able to use all the features Zoom offer in order to provide a more engaging and fruitful online class for students.
